Odisha is going to get its first ever desalination plant in the state.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was recently concluded between the Paradip Port Trust (PPT) and the National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), in Chennai for implementing the project.
The proposed desalination plant will have a capacity of 10 million liters per day. The project will cost around Rs 116 crore and likley to be comissioned by 2021. The saline water would likley to be made portable for consumption in the PPT township through Sea Water Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) process.
The first of its kind project is going to be implemented on PPP basis. The tender for the project will be floated soon.
