On 03 December 2022, Minister Tourism, Literature & Culture, Excise Ashwini Kumar Patra unveiled the new Odisha Tourism Policy 2022 during the sectoral session on Tourism Industry at the Make in Odisha Conclave 2022.
The future roadmap for development of the tourism sector was also unveiled during the summit. The policy is primarily focused on the areas for the incorporation of incentives for integrated development with hospitals attached to 3+star and above hotels. The policy increases the capital incentive subsidy to 30 % from the earlier 20-25%, to encourage investment in the sector. This will also help in promoting Odisha a destination of Medical and Wellness Tourism. The policy also offers incentive in the acquisition of land for tourism projects at industrial rates.
The new policy is expected to promote beach tourism, Buddhist tourism, heritage tourism, religious tourism, meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) tourism, caravan, campervan / camping van tourism, health and wellness tourism, marine, cruise and yacht tourism, sand art tourism, adventure tourism.
The new policy is likely to promote sustainable & responsible tourism encouraging professional management and private sector participation that will attract more investment opportunities. It focuses on accelerated development of the sector with a view to creating employment opportunities and bring about socio-economic benefits to the stakeholders.
