The state government is planning to implement 10 ropeway projects across the state to give a boost to the state tourism under ‘Parbatmala’ Yojana.
Of the 10 proposed ropeways, Chilika Lake will have the longest ropeway with a length of 5.3 km, that will connect Prayagi of Krushnaprasad and Kalijai temple. At present, Auli ropeway with 4km long in Uttarakhand is considered to be the longest one in the country. The state government is likely to send the proposal to the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways for requisite approval soon.
The other proposed ropeways include, ropeway to connect Mangalpur with Bhimkund (700 metre-long) will be erected in Mayurbhanj and ropeway to connect Baxibarigaon-Bayapandadhar Road with Gonasika hills (670 metre-long) in Keonjhar, a 2.6 km-long ropeway to connect Nuguda Square with Malayagiri hill of Angul, a 360 metre-long ropeway to connect Udala-Chaksuliapada with Devkund of Mayurbhanj, 320 metre-long ropeway to connect Gumandi with Dudhari of Koraput, 260 metre-long ropeway to connect Phulbani-Gochhapada road with Putudi waterfall of Kandhamal, 1.72 km-long ropeway to connect Badamula-Kuturi with Satakosia of Nayagarh, 1.5 km-long ropeway to connect Dudhari-Gumandi road with eco-retreat of Koraput and 3.34 km-long ropeway to connect Krushnaprasad-Satapada road at Janhikuda with Chilika Lake of Puri.
Apart from the above 10 proposed ropeways, the government has also invited suggestions from Urban Department superintending engineers (SEs) in different districts for new locations. Then these proposals will accordingly be sent to the Central government for approvals.
