Cabinet nod for Extension of Biju Expressway in Odisha

The Odisha Cabinet headed by the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, on 9 Jun 2021, approved the construction and widening of the Rs 448 Crore – Biju Expressway Extension project in the state. The proposed project is likely to enhance the connectivity between Western and Southern Odisha and boost economic and industrial development in the state.

The Biju Expressway Extension project will be an expanded 174.5km long expressway would boost trade and industrial activities. Moreover, the state is considering developing of the expressway as a ‘Biju Express Economic Corridor’ through the Department of Industries. The project estimated to cost around Rs 448 crore will be developed in EPC mode as a carriageway. This will include construction of 17 minor bridges and eight major bridges. Of the total length, 174.5km-Biju Expressway, 104.65km from Ghatipada to Sinapali will be in Nuapada district and remaining 69.85km from Dharmagarh to Ampani will be in Kalahandi district.

Meanwhile, the state cabinet also planning to construct the box culvert carriage road over main drain No-1 from Pattapol to Matrubhawan in Cuttack.
