DMRC submits DPR for Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Project 

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has submitted the Detailed Report Project (DPR) for the Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Project on 16 August 2023. 

The DMRC which was entrusted by the Odisha government to prepare the DPR has submitted the report to the state government. The DMRC conducted the traffic survey, geotechnical investigation, topographic survey, environmental and social impact assessments and prepared the DPR and submitted to the state chief secretary on 16 August 2023.  

With this, the roadmap for Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Project was cleared. As proposed in the DPR, the phase-I of the project will be a 20-km stretch with 26 stations. The areas to be covered include Biju Patnaik airport, Capital Hospital, Sishu Bhawan, Bapuji Nagar, Bhubaneswar Railway Station, Ram Mandir Square, Vani Vihar, Acharya Vihar, Jaydev Vihar, Xavier Square, Rail Sadan, Damana Square, Patia Square, KIIT Square, Nandan Vihar, Raghunathpur, Nandankanan Zoological Park, Phulapokhari and Trishulia Square (Cuttack). 

The Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), constituted to execute the project. The BMRCL was notified on August 3, 2023. Its CEO and General Manager (Administration) have been appointed. 

The Metro rail project was covered under the 5T mandate connecting Bhubaneswar airport and Trishulia in Cuttack. There are plans to extend the metro rail project to Khordha, Puri, and other areas of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack cities.
