CM approves metro rail project in Odisha

Odisha Metro Rail Project

Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik approved the proposal for the metro rail services in the state on the occasion of Utkal Divas on 01 April 2023.

The total length of the metro rail project will be approximately 100-km and will be constructed in a phased manner. The phase I of the project, approximately 25-km length, will involve a route from Trisulia in Cuttack to Bhubaneswar Airport. The construction will start from Subhash Bose Setu in Cuttack and will mostly be on elevated corridors. The first phase will en-route Patia, Nandankanan, Vani Vihar, Jaydev Vihar, and the railway station in the city. Later on this service will be extended to Khurda and Puri. The project will entirely be funded by the State government.

The construction of the metro train will help reduce the pollution and congestion in the city. The subsequent expansion will also help attract investments and improve connectivity.

Meanwhile, the CM has instructed the Housing and Urban Development department to prepare the feasibility-cum-detailed project report (DPR) on a war foot basis. Ahead of the approval of the proposal, Odisha Chief Secretary along with the development commissioner, 5T, transport and IT secretaries conducted a high-level review to check the feasibility of metro train services on different routes.
