BHEL, L&T-MHI JV bid for Talabira Thermal Project

BHEL and L&T-MHI – JV, are in race for the boiler-turbine-generator (BTG) order of NLC India’s upcoming 2,400 MW thermal power project in Odisha.

These two entities have bid for the BTG and balance of work order, for the tender floated by NLC India for the 2,400 (3×800) MW thermal power plant at Talabira in Odisha. While, the tender value has not been disclosed, it is estimated that, the total value to set up the project will be around Rs 20,000 crore. Earlier, NLC India was planned to set up the project at Sirkazhi in Tamil Nadu but later shifted to Talabira in order to save the cost of transporting coal from Talabira mines to down south. The power generated from the project will be shared by four states viz., Tamil Nadu 1,500 MW, Puducherry 100 MW Karnataka 400 MW and Odisha 400 MW.
