Petronet LNG, Gopalpur Port Trust signs agreement to set up floating LNG terminal

Petronet LNG and Gopalpur Port Trust signed an agreement to develop a floating LNG terminal at Gopalpur Port in Ganjam district of Odisha.

The proposed LNG Terminal with a capacity of 4 million tpa will be a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) terminal and will be constructed with an investment of Rs 2,306 crore. Recently last month, the board of the company had accorded investment approval for construction of the project. The project will be funded through a mix of debt and equity and likely to complete by December 2025. With this facility at Gopalpur, on the eastern coast – Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) operates a 5 million tpa facility at Ennore in Tamil Nadu and the other is by Adani Group in partnership with Total Energy of France under construction at Dhamra Port.

Petronet management had earlier of the view that the FSRU-based receiving and regasification scheme has the provision to be converted in the future to a land-based terminal – with an expected capacity of 5 million tpa.

The proposed terminal is expected to meet the increasing demands of the eastern and central part of the country.
