Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation (GMDC), a major mining PSU enterprise, has emerged as the highest bidder for two coal mines in Odisha in a recently concluded commercial coal block auction by the Union Ministry of Coal.
GMDC has won the bids for Odisha’s Burapahar Block in Sundargarh district, which is having a geological reserve of 548 million tonne and the Baitarani (West) Block in Angul district a geological reserve of 1,152 million tonne.
With this expansion GMDC has gone beyond its geographical boundaries of Gujarat and opened the way for future planning opportunities for the development of the power sector and building energy requirements for the country.
Similarly, Rungta Sons Private Ltd has emerged as the successful bidder for the Sakhigopal B Kankili coal block which is having an estimated reserve of 500 million tonne in Odisha.
