CM inaugurates PG Institute at Capital Hospital

CM Naveen Patnaik inaugurated the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research (PGIMER) at Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar on 30 December 2022.

The Odisha cabinet approved the development of a Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research at Capital Hospital, Bhubaneswar for imparting post graduate education in different clinical and non-clinical disciplines in 23 November 2021. The cabinet also approved the lowest tender bid of Rs 235.08 crore for construction of the project with completion target for 24 months.

In the 1st phase, approval of National Medical Commission (NMC) has been obtained for opening 6 departments. They are, O&G (5 seats), General Medicine (5 seats), General Surgery (5 seats), Orthopaedic (2 seats), Paediatrics (4 seats) and Pulmonary Medicine (3 seats), from the academic session 2022-23 with admission of 24 post graduate students.

Meanwhile, a new academic block for the PG institute is being built up at a cost of Rs 284 crore. It is scheduled to be completed by December 2023.

This will play a significant role in providing quality education and expert healthcare to people in the capital and the state.
