Odisha approves 10 eco-retreats, 3 nature camps, Ghodahada Eco-tourism Complex inaugurated

In a major boost to eco-tourism, the Odisha state administration has approved development of 10 eco-retreats and 3 nature camps, in a meeting held on 26 August 2022. 

This proposal has been planned to attract tourists and utilising the natural potential of the state. The state chief secretary Suresh Chandra Mahapatra, approved, 10 new spots for development of eco-retreats with night stay facilities, and 3 new spots for development as nature-camp for the day tourists. The chief secretary has also directed the concerned department to involve local communities in hospitality and upkeep of the spots so that they earn their livelihood and preserve natural environs of the spots. 

The proposed new sites for setting up eco-cottages are Deomali hill top in Koraput, Jakam in Kalahandi, Nawana in Similipal north, Silviculture Garden in Phulbani, Muhana Muhana at Astaranga in Puri, Kotia in Koraput, Khadakhai dam in Rairangpur, Mahendragiri from Ganjam side in Berhampur, Kanjipani Ghat and Hadagarh dam in Keonjhar forest divisions. 

PCCF Wild Life’s Sashi Paul appraised that as of now 50 total eco-retreat destinations and nature camps are operating the State. With these 13 new approvals, the total number of spots would increase to 63. These spots are growing popular with increasing footfalls and revenue generation. Around Rs 95 crore have been invested in development of the destinations so far . 

Meanwhile, on 26 August 2022, an eco-tourism complex near the reservoir at Ghodahada near Digapahandi, in Ganjam district was inaugurated.
