The state government is planning to develop 10 sites as seaports in the coastal areas of Odisha.
The State Minister for Commerce and Transport has asserted that, the state is planning to develop 10 seaports. The construction work is on at Subarnapur and the confluence at Astarang, and the state government has identified to develop of non-major ports in Puri, Bhadrak, Ganjam and Chandipur, Bichitpur and Inchui in Balasore district. The government has signed an agreement with IIT Madras for streamlining the construction of new seaports.
While, the state will provide the required land, the ports will be developed under public-private partnership (PPP) model.
Meanwhile, proposals to develop a riverport on the Mahakalpada river in Kendrapada is on the card. The Water and Power Consultancy Services (WAPCOS) the consultant for the project is preparing the survey of the port project.
